The Sheep
The Sheep
Sheep have been raised here since 1987 when 12 sheep were purchased.
The flock is now comprised of Texel, Dorset, and Suffolk breeds. Many ewes are a mix of all three breeds. The focus in on growing a superior carcass.
Lambing happens at various times of the year. The last lambs were born in April.
The Sheep are shorn once a year. As the focus is on raising lambs for meat, the wool the ewes produce is not long enough or fine enough for use in clothing. The wool will most likely be used for blankets, carpets, socks, felt, etc.
